Louis Mariette interviews Elephant Charity – King Charles III and Queen Camilla are Joint Presidents
Elephant Family was founded in 2002 by the late Mark Shand. Following a remarkable adventure
with his elephant Tara in India, Mark made it his life’s purpose to bring Asian elephants and their
beautiful home to the world’s attention. He brought together a vibrant team of passionate, creative
thinkers who leveraged the power of art and creativity to raise awareness and inspire people to take
action.
Elephant Family retains this same creative and adventurous spirit today, continuing to drive
meaningful conservation action through art, culture and delight with the support of Their Majesties
King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the Joint Royal Presidents of Elephant Family.
Working hand in hand with local communities, Elephant Family champions practical, long-term
solutions to take on wildlife’s greatest threats in Asia: habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict. In
2019, Elephant Family formally merged with the British Asian Trust. As a join entity, they bring
together the best minds in conservation, culture, art and philanthropy to protect Asia’s most
endangered wildlife and the precious habitats they depend on.
Elephant Family is a part of the British Asian Trust, a UK registered charity (1127366).
Louis Mariette was delighted to hear first hand from Hilary Thomas, spokesperson and Head of
Fundraising for Elephant Family, and learn more about this remarkable charity and the inspiring
conservation work it carries out across Asia. During the interview, Hilary shared insights into
Elephant Family's mission to protect endangered wildlife, preserve vital habitats, and support the
communities that live alongside them, highlighting the charity's lasting impact on conservation
throughout the region.
